Stop To Smell the Roses

Stop To Smell the Roses

Henry loved his Boys & Girls Club and shared his excitement whenever he could. Henry was a wonderful supporter and member of the Board. As a great board member, dedicated to his local community and his local Club, Henry left his own wonderful planned gift to the Club through his estate plan. However, his reach was far greater than that.

Henry loved to work in his rose garden each afternoon and would always chat with his neighbor, Gladys, across the fence separating their properties. Henry would always get around to talking about the children at the Boys & Girls Club and what satisfaction he received from being a board member and long time supporter. He invited Gladys to visit the Club many times but Gladys never got around to it. She would just beam, however, as Henry would share story after story about the kids at the Club.

Much to everyone's surprise when Gladys passed away, we were informed by her attorney of a very significant bequest left to the Boys & Girls Club! You can imagine the surprise but more importantly, the satisfaction that Henry had on learning of his neighbor's support. We later learned from Gladys's family members that she respected Henry so much that she wanted to do something special. She lived the Boys & Girls Club excitement through her neighbor who, sincerely and without asking for anything in return, told her of the hope and opportunity provided to each child at the Club.

It certainly pays to stop and smell the roses.
